MATH We continue to "play" with money. Some of the activities we do are within a "game" type of atmosphere to help the students have FUN with money! (They have REALLY improved in their ability to write money amounts using a decimal!)
This unit is proving to be VERY challenging for the students. We have worked on writing money amounts and using play money to identify amounts and count out amounts.
We will work with calculators to determine the amount of change one should receive when purchasing items. We will also pretend to go shopping and problem-solve "when to add" and "when to subtract" to determine prices, costs, and change.
Students have been working with money. A pre-test was given to find out their current knowledge and skill level. They are also learning how to write money amounts using the cent sign as well as the dollar sign with a decimal (EX: 55 cents = $.55 ) They will be using play money to count change and dollar amounts. When possible, take out real coins at home and ask your student the value of each coin. Lay coins out on the table and have them count out change to you!
